This 430cc club is the first of the SMT lineup to boast that it has a part of it that is patented. Albeit, patented in the country of origin, in this case, China. The industry seems to want to go with the thought that "bigger is better" but size alone does not warrent acceptance of that comment, without an asterisk. Just because it is bigger, doesn't necessarily mean that it is "better".
We have a very popular clubhead in the composite crown Babylon, but immediately we heard comments from half the customers that they had strong feelings either way about the sound generated from a multi material clubhead... some liked the muted sound, some did not care for it as much.
The Indio is the club that produces very similar playing characteristics as the Babylon, but in an all titanium product. The patented crown design is clearly different from the moment you see the club. The revolutionary crosshatch crown has been forged with weight reduction and rigidity in mind. At the same time, the underside of the crown has been forged with a different, almost multiple tear drop design which also increases tautness as well as reduces the weight from within.
The result, a unique yet pleasant blend of technology and functionality. A crown that is overall lighter than other titanium crowns, but one that will counter the violent effects of ball and club impact than traditional manufacturing techniques.
We were able to take the weight saved on the top of the clubhead and do something equally unique on the sole and backskirt of this head. We cut in deep angular fins, which simply add more actual product area to a sole of the same size. In other words, we added weight in all the right places, again, without the need for welding weight chips onto the inside of the soleplate or adding of any weight in the form of copper or screw systems.
More weight where you need it... less where you don't and a sound that we all have become comfortable with from SMT Golf.
