The Story-

Kelley Thompson - Logical One Golf

The "story" behind this putter is one that is very close and very special to me. This putter was designed and developed by me, with the aid of my 6 year old son. Not only by just watching him and understanding how kids adapt to the game of golf, but by learning from him that strength and belief are key elements in life.

You see, in 2003, my son, at the age of 3, was diagnosed with a blood disorder/autoimmune disease called ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura). This is a disease where, in simple terms, the antibodies kill the platelets and there is no cure. Obviously platelets play a crucial part in the blood clotting process and the normal human body count/range is 150,000 to 400,000. When my son was first diagnosed with ITP, his counts were at 3,000, which is life threatening. To this day, I can not believe how close I was to potentially loosing my son.

Anyway, I am not trying to make this a "pity/sob" story, but I made a promise to myself that I would have more strength and more belief in life after seeing what my son went through with all of the hospital visits (when his counts get low he needs to go in for a two day infusion process) and how much strength and belief he had while doing so. I have also determined that a portion of each sale will be contributed to the PDSA (Platelet Disorder Support Association), which provided us with resources and information to help us get through what we have been going through.

The Logic-

To represent the relationships and to aid in alignment I uniquely, but simply, designed the top of the putter head with alignment lines that represent the width of the hole, the width of the ball and the center of the head. Lines are the most basic and understandable geometric shape and provide the essential element for motion across a visual space and has a definite purpose in direction. These alignment lines are also all on the same level so the eyes are not having to adjust/adapt to multiple levels for alignment. The alignment lines are tiered toward the back of the putter head with the center line being the longest. When standing over a putt, the alignment lines make it very easy to coordinate your body and the putter together so that both are aligned properly to the target, whether that is the hole or a spot on the putting surface you picked out during your "read". The putter head is center shafted, just inside the center alignment line. A "3-Bend" type of shaft to create proper offset and lie angle, as well as offering flexibility, will be used

The size and shape of the putter head form around the alignment lines to create that natural eye flow from target to ball to putter or from putter to ball to target. Everything flows and aligns nicely. The size promotes confidence and the weight corresponds well with not being too heavy or too light (around 366 grams). The feel of the putter head is quite balanced with good feedback to the hands while providing firmness of a positive stroke. "Lag" putting and putting from around/off the green is accommodated quite nicely. The bottom of the putter is contoured so that fringe or semi-rough putting is smooth and unobtrusive when taking the putter back, while the radius (heel to toe and front to back) offers lie flexibility for ALL golfers. Another unique, but "Logical" feature. Overall, it is a very "classy" looking head with a touch of attitude.

The final touches placed on the putter include a tightly milled, nicely profiled face that is contrasting in color. The tightly milled face is so that no particles get "trapped" and there is consistent roll, time after time.
